Publishing and sharing
A game you make is a draft that only you see. Publishing makes it public: it gets a share link, an address of its own and a page.
#Publish
Press Publish on the game's card in the room, or Publish in My Games on the laptop, or run this in the project:
pocket-studio publish --slug moon
Published "Moon Lander". Share: https://studio.pocket.nexus/studio/?app=a8ja3s2exefnv
Address: https://moon.studio.pocket.nexus
A published game shows its newest build. Send the current one with pocket-studio push before you publish; later builds reach the share link and the address as soon as they are pushed.
Take it down on the card (Unpublish on the laptop) makes it a draft again. The share link and the address then show no game, and the address stays the game's.
#The address
A published game of an account has an address, https://<name>.studio.pocket.nexus. The name is 3 to 32 lowercase letters and digits, with single hyphens between them.
- Publishing gives a game without one a name from its title. When another game holds that name, it tries the name with
-2to-9after it. --slug <name>asks for a name, and Change the address on the card changes it. A name another game holds is refused, and so is a name the Studio keeps for itself, such aswww,api,playorstudio.- A name a game gives up stays held for its account for 30 days: in that time its address shows no game, and no other account can take it.
- A guest's game has no address. It is shared by its link.
#What people see
| Where | What it is |
|---|---|
The share link, /studio/?app=<id> | The room, with the game's card open. |
| The address | The game in the web player, playable in a browser with no account. |
The game's page, /games/<name> | The game's listing: its pictures, its description, where it runs and its packages, with Play in your browser and Open in Pocket Studio. A link to it shows its card picture on X and other sites. |
Every shelf carries the games Pocket Nexus featured or verified. Anyone who opens your game's share link sees its card and can press Put it on my shelf to keep it on their own shelf. While you are a member, Pocket TV airs your published games and search lists them, and a viewer can keep a game from there too. A game on nobody else's shelf is still reachable by its link and its address.
#The cover
The cover is the picture on the game's case, its card and Pocket TV.
pocket-studio cover cover.png
Set the cover of "Moon Lander": 960 by 544, 21 KB.
A cover is a PNG of 64 to 2048 pixels on each side and at most 2 MiB. A screenshot at the device's own size fits: pocket-studio shot writes one. pocket-studio cover --remove takes it off.
#Packages and downloads
A game can carry an installation package for each device, which members download from its card. See Packages for how to upload one. Members download a game's packages only while its author lets them: Members can download it on the card, or
pocket-studio downloads on
#Verified and homebrew
Pocket Nexus marks a game Verified by Pocket Nexus when it published or reviewed it. A game that is not verified and has packages has one line on its card: its packages are homebrew from the author, not tested by Pocket Nexus. The download is the same button.
#Takedowns
Pocket Nexus can take a game down. Its card then says so with the reason, and the game is a draft that cannot be published until that is lifted. It is off the shelf and its address; you keep the game, can still change it and can delete it. Write to support@pocket.nexus about a takedown.
#Delete a game
Delete this game on its card, or in the project:
pocket-studio delete --yes
Without --yes the command lists what would go and deletes nothing. Deleting removes the game, its builds, packages, cover and listing for good, and gives up its address.
#Limits
An account holds 50 projects, drafts and published ones together, and 3 GiB of builds, packages and site files.
